This guide is for troubleshooting webcam streaming in OctoPrint.

If the webcam works in OctoPrint but not in The Spaghetti Detective, you need to check this troubleshooting guide.

1. Check the current webcam streaming mode#

Follow this guide to find out the current webcam streaming mode.

  • If the streaming mode is "Premium (advanced)", go to step 2.
  • If the streaming mode is "Premium (compatibility)" or "Basic", go to step 3.
info

"Premium (advanced)" mode means The Spaghetti Detective plugin has taken control over the webcam from OctoPrint. Whereas "Premium (compatibility)" or "Basic" mode means The Spaghetti Detective plugin left the webcam control to OctoPrint.

2. Change settings to "Always stream in compatibility mode"#

  1. Open the plugin's settings page and set the streaming mode to "Always stream in compatibility mode". Follow this guide if you are not sure how to do it.
  2. (Very important) Restart the Raspberry Pi. Just restarting OctoPrint is NOT enough in this case.
  3. Check if the webcam streaming works now in OctoPrint. If it does, you can claim victory and open a champagne. Otherwise, continue to the next step.

3. Check if the webcam is configured correctly in OctoPrint#

Before checking if the webcam is configured correctly in OctoPrint, let's disable The Spaghetti Detective plugin to be 100% sure it is not the source of the problem.

  1. Open OctoPrint settings page by clicking the wrench icon (๐Ÿ”ง).
  2. On the settings page, click "Plugin Manager".
  3. Find the "Access Anywhere - The Spaghetti Detective" plugin.
  4. Disable the plugin by clicking the little toggle on the right-hand side.
  5. Follow the prompt to restart OctoPrint.

To test if the webcam is correctly configured in OctoPrint,

  2. Click the "Webcam & Timelapse" tab.
  3. Locate the "Stream URL" field.
  4. Press the "Test" button next to it.
  5. Locate the "Snapshot URL" field.

If the test failed, the webcam is not configured correctly in OctoPrint. You need to fix this problem first. The best place for find the information and/or get help is the OctoPrint community forum.

If the test passed, please re-enable The Spaghetti Detective plugin and restart OctoPrint. After that, if the webcam streaming OctoPrint stops working again, it probably means you have run into a bug in The Spaghetti Detective plugin. In this case, report the problem to us.

info

If you are running OctoPrint on a Raspberry Pi, and you followed the official OctoPi setup guide, and you have one webcam (either a Pi Camera or a USB camera) directly plugged in the Pi, the default webcam configurations should work.

However, if you have a custom OctoPrint setup, such as using an IP camera, configured multiple webcams, or not using the OctoPi image, you may have inadvertently set the webcam snapshot URL to a wrong value.
